Wendy Wood
Wendy grew up in Roy, Utah, and retired from Hill Air Force Base in 2015 after 35 years. Wendy has been married for 29 years, and she’s proud to be the mother of three adult sons and the grandmother of four wonderful grandchildren.
Turning 65 inspired her to focus on longevity and staying active, so she’s made walking and hiking a consistent part of my routine. As a volunteer WWHS ambassador, she’s excited to share her love of the outdoors, encourage others to stay active, and help more people discover the beauty of Utah’s trails.
The outdoors has always been Wendy’s happy place. She began hiking in Northern Utah, where she especially enjoyed exploring waterfalls and alpine lakes during the summer months. However, her strong dislike of cold weather limited her hiking to only a few months each year.
In 2020, she moved to Hurricane, Utah, initially intending to spend only about three months here. Over time, she grew to love both the community and the abundance of outdoor activities, and she and her husband decided to make this our full-time home.
She learned about the Wine Hiking Society group from a former member and was immediately drawn to the idea of combining two of my favorite activities: wine and hiking. It seemed like a perfect fit. After joining, she was happy to discover such a wonderful community of women, which only increased her enthusiasm to continue participating in hikes.
When she’s not hiking, Wendy loves reading fantasy novels, baking, and crafting.
Wendy’s favorite hike: “There are so many to choose from but in 2025 we spent some time in Escalante and I loved Spooky Slot Canyon. It was really narrow and challenging to get through.”
Wendy’s favorite drink: “You can never go wrong with a Margarita.”
Wendy’s favorite hiking or backpacking gear: “My Keen boots”
