Tara McElhinney
Originally from Pennsylvania, Tara moved to Denver in 2015 with her sister, seeking a change of scenery. In Colorado, she met her now husband, who was living in Maryland at the time. A few months later, she relocated to the East Coast to be with him. Then, in December 2022, Tara and her husband moved back to Colorado.
During her free time, Tara enjoys exploring new trails, diving into a good book, cooking, and spending time with her family. By day, she is the owner of a holistic veterinary service company named Dazzling Canines. Tara’s passion lies in canine dental health, and she is dedicated to promoting long, healthy lives for our beloved canine companions.
Tara grew up surrounded by the outdoors, with deer, groundhogs, and turkeys often visiting her home. Her love for animals and her passion for exploration naturally led her to hiking. Tara isn’t a fan of gyms or intense workouts, so she prefers to spend her time hiking at her own pace and escaping the occasional stress of life.
She finds great joy in visiting and exploring places in the world that make her feel small and humble. These experiences remind her of the importance of taking care of our planet and appreciating the incredible places that surround us.
Tara’s Favorite Hike: “Pikes Peak via Crags Trail. March 2018. It was challenging in the snow & at moments technical without fearing for my life. And there were fresh made donuts at the top! Talk about a sweet reward!”
Tara’s Favorite Wine or Drink: “Always love a good white peach sangria!”
Tara’s Favorite Hiking / Backpacking Gear: “My trekking poles! I purchased them from Bass Pro Shops in 2016 and I still have them. They’ve gotten me through so many hikes including four 14ers, national parks like RMNP, Acadia and Yellowstone, and have saved my life on more than one occasion as they became an extension of my short arms when needed!”
