Michaela Hugie
Michaela grew up between the small town of Morgan, Utah, and even smaller towns in Maine, where she spent her childhood running around the mountains and swimming in lakes. She has a PhD in biological engineering and loves everything related to STEM.
When she’s not hiking, you can find Michaela baking with her sourdough starter named Georgie, reading, caring for her plants, or spending time with her three giant rescue pups. Though she’s always loved the outdoors, Michaela truly discovered her passion for hiking during college. For her, hiking is the perfect way to relax, reset, and put everything else on hold. She believes there’s no such thing as a bad day hiking.
Michaela found this group a year into the COVID pandemic after moving to a new place and feeling the isolation that many experienced. She was eager to find friends who shared her love of nature, and she cherishes the friendships she’s developed in this group, both on and off the trail.
Michaela’s Favorite Hike: Otterbahn Trail in Seldovia, Alaska
Michaela’s Favorite Wine or Drink: Reisling or a good Moscow mule
Michaela’s Favorite Hiking / Backpacking Gear: “Personally: my birdie that I can use as an SOS. Overall: my dog doo carrier.”
