Melanie Fishell

Melanie is a proud mom of two teenage boys and two Vizslas. Originally from New Mexico, she spent 22 years in Georgia, 6 years in Utah, and recently moved to Oklahoma at the end of June.

With 26 years of experience in aviation, Melanie has worked as a flight attendant, training manager, safety manager for airlines, and an Aviation Safety Inspector with the FAA. She recently took on a new role as an Aviation Safety Investigator and Training Manager for the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Melanie loves weightlifting, outdoor activities, and singing. She was first introduced to hiking in Georgia and fell in love with it even more when she moved to Utah. Hiking became her outlet during stressful times, including her divorce and life as a single mom. During COVID, she embraced her “4 Ws of healing”—Wilderness, Wine, Watercolor, and Weightlifting.

When she was new to Utah, Melanie wanted to hike with like-minded women, and she found the Women’s Wine Hiking Society to be the perfect fit. Though initially intimidated by some of the hikes because she considers herself a slow hiker, Melanie quickly felt at home after joining a hike and meeting some amazing women who became instant friends. She loves how welcoming, inclusive, and unintimidating the group is!

Melanie’s Favorite Hike: “Bells Canyon in Utah – Still too new to have an Oklahoma favorite”

Melanie’s Favorite Drink: Sauvignon Blanc

Melanie’s Favorite Hiking/ Backpacking Gear: “Definitely my hydration pack – not only for the water, but all the snacks I can pack :-)”
