Wine Hiker Responsibility Agreement

We wine hikers share a passion for exploring nature’s beauty, enjoying each other’s company, and indulging in the pleasures of wine and camaraderie. We understand that hiking is a team sport, and as such, we are committed to fostering a safe and enjoyable experience for all. To ensure the success of each hike, we pledge to uphold the following responsibilities:

  1. Know Your Abilities: Prior to joining a hike, we acknowledge the importance of self-awareness. We will evaluate our own hiking abilities, physical fitness, and experience honestly. Opting for a hike that aligns with our capabilities is crucial to maintaining our safety and the safety of others. Selecting a hike beyond our comfort level may jeopardize the safety of the group.
  2. Download the Map on a Navigation App: While our experienced ambassadors diligently plan each hike, unexpected situations can arise. In case of an emergency or accidental separation from the group, we commit to downloading the map for the designated hike on a navigation app such as Gaia, AllTrails, or Strava. This precaution ensures that we can navigate our way back to the trailhead confidently. (Use code WINE30 to save 30% on the AllTrails+ subscription.)
  3. Stay Close and Communicate: Our enjoyment of the hiking experience is enhanced when we stick together as a group. If we intend to frequently stop for photos or require additional time for personal reasons, we vow to inform our fellow hikers in advance. It becomes our responsibility to catch up with the group should we fall behind. If rest, food / fuel, or a restroom break is needed, we will notify the group, allowing them to patiently wait.
  4. Stop at Trail Junctions: For those among us who find ourselves at the forefront of the hike due to our brisk pace, we promise to halt at trail junctions or any locations indicated by the ambassador. This practice assists in accounting for the members ahead of us, ensuring that no one gets unintentionally separated.
  5. Maintain Visual Contact: We acknowledge the significance of maintaining visual contact with both the hiker in front of us and the hiker behind us. This practice promotes a sense of unity and responsiveness, enabling us to respond swiftly to any situations that may arise.
  6. Assist at Water Crossings: When encountering water crossings, we understand the importance of teamwork and mutual support. If we are the first to cross, we pledge to wait and ensure that the hiker behind us safely navigates the water before proceeding.
  7. Respect Nature and Fellow Hikers: Our love for nature compels us to uphold responsible hiking practices. We vow to respect the environment, leaving no trace of our presence behind. We will also extend the same respect to our fellow hikers, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere throughout our journeys.
  8. Practice Trail Etiquette. As wine hikers, we pledge to adhere to proper trail etiquette to minimize our ecological footprint and maintain positive interactions with others. This includes:
    • Yielding to uphill hikers and those on horseback, allowing them to navigate with ease.
    • Keeping noise levels considerate of the serene surroundings and other hikers’ experiences.
    • Avoiding shortcuts or creating new paths, to protect the fragile ecosystems.

By following these principles, we, the wine hikers, commit to fostering a harmonious and safe environment on our hikes. Our shared responsibility will enhance our adventures, strengthen our connections, and ensure each hike is a safe, enjoyable experience.

By signing up for this hike, I accept these principles.
