About This Event
On this hike in subalpine spruce and fir and impressive rock outcrops, you’ll be rewarded with magnificent, 180-degree views of Pine Valley and the mountains that surround it.
Though the trail is labeled Moderate by AllTrails, it IS a mountain singletrack trail with a steady ascent. From Whipple Trailhead the trail starts upward immediately, climbing steadily (but pleasantly) over the next two miles. Finally, at about the 3 mile mark, and after an elevation gain of some 1,300 feet, the trail dips 200 feet down into Hop Canyon, where we will take a deserved break for drinks and snacks.
Expect both sun and shade and the smell of evergreens! The temps on this trail average a good 15-20 degrees cooler than the St. George valley — a welcome respite from the heat.
TRAIL RATING: Moderate (1,350 elevation gain)
LENGTH: 6.3 miles RT
CARPOOLING: Watch for an email from southernutah.whs@gmail.com about 5-7 days before the event for coordination.
