Corks & Canyons: A Women’s Backpacking Escape is the perfect adventure for women eager to explore Coyote Gulch, one of Southern Utah’s most beautiful destinations. This backpacking trip is designed for experienced hikers who want to unplug, reconnect, and enjoy a weekend surrounded by like-minded women.

On this women’s backpacking adventure in Coyote Gulch, you’ll escape the distractions of daily life—no cell service, emails, or texts. Instead, you’ll find wide-open skies, dramatic desert landscapes, and unforgettable memories made with new friends.

This adventure-filled journey will take you through the heart of Coyote Gulch, where you’ll experience the natural beauty of Southern Utah. Whether you’re craving peaceful solitude or camaraderie with fellow adventurers, this trip offers both. You’ll hike stunning trails, explore hidden spots, and bond with other women who share your love for nature and the outdoors.

Before we hit the trail for our 3-day, 2-night backpack, we’ll spend 1 night car camping along Hole in the Rock Road. That way, you don’t have to get up early to make the long drive.

 

TRAIL RATING: Moderate (~600 ft. of elevation gain)

LENGTH: ~20 miles RT

CARPOOLING: Will be coordinated via a private WhatsApp chat. Please plan your travel time accordingly.

TENT SHARING: Because tent spots are limited in backcountry sites, tent sharing will be required unless we end up with an odd number of participants.

$429 Cost Includes:

  • WHS Backpacking Checklist so you know what gear you need
  • 3 days, 2 nights at a beautiful backcountry campsite
  • Food menu ideas tailored to backpacking in the desert
  • Emergency gear including two group first aid kits, GPS locator / SOS device
  • Search and Rescue insurance in the very, very rare chance of an emergency
  • Two experienced backpacking guides who are both certified in first-aid and CPR
  • All permits required by the National Park Service
  • Zoom meeting to coordinate gear and tent sharing and carpooling

What the Cost Does NOT Include:

  • Alcohol, food, clothing, backpacking gear

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ

Backpacking experience is required.

 

Pricing is based on each attendee’s ability to be self-sufficient while backpacking. Below are requirements to attend this backpacking trip.

Basic Requirements to Attend: 

  • Need little to no direction on the following:
    • How to pack you backpack
    • What gear is required
    • Clothing and footwear needed
    • Basic trail finding
    • Food / menu planning
    • Leave No Trace Principles

WHS backpacking trips rated as MODERATE also have the following requirements:

  • Ability to hike 5-10 miles per day with a 35-pound backpack
  • Average backpacking pace: 40-minute miles
  • Been backpacking two (2) or more times and did not rely on someone else for direction on the “Basic” requirements

ITINERARY

Day 1: Depart from the SLC area around 10 AM. Meet off HWY 12 at Hole in the Rock Road and set up camp at the designated site.

Day 2: Travel to the trailhead. From there, hike approximately 7 miles to base camp.

Day 3: Enjoy a day hike to the Black Lagoon and Cliff Arch. (No need to move camp!)

Day 4: Pack up camp and head back to the trailhead.

Cancellations prior to August 1, 2025, will be eligible for a full refund minus a $75 convenience fee. Cancellations prior to Sept 1, 2025, will be eligible for a 50% refund minus a $75 convenience fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations after August 31, 2025. NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

What to Expect after Reserving Your Spot

  1. After booking, you’ll receive a confirmation email. If you don’t see it in your inbox, be sure to check your junk folder. Still no confirmation? Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]!
  2. Around 30 days before the event, you’ll receive important information, such as the full itinerary, our trip-specific packing checklist, and the link to our WhatsApp group to connect with our attendees and to communicate any changes.
  3. Two weeks before the the event, we will host a Zoom meeting to coordinate carpooling and gear sharing and answer any questions.
