About This Event

Do you know what to do if something happens to you or someone you’re with on the trail?

Join us on either April 6 or April 26 (choose the date on the next page) for a 2.5-hour virtual class on wilderness first aid (WFA) and learn the skills needed to feel confident in the backcountry.

The 2.5-hour Wilderness First Aid course will be half lecture and half instruction on how to splint and bandage injuries and wounds. You will learn the following practical information:

  • General location and equipment prep
  • Basic Assessment: ABCs
  • Wounds, bleeding, tourniquet
  • Basics of splinting
  • Altitude sickness
  • Heat-related injuries
  • Burns
  • Animal wounds (bites, stings)
  • And more

This class is taught by Megan Morin-Long. Megan brings an impressive blend of academic knowledge and real-world emergency experience to this engaging and practical session.

  • Academic Background:

    • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
    • Master’s degree in Nursing Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
    • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology
  • Certifications:

    • Certified Emergency Room (ER) Nurse

    • Certified in Wilderness Medicine

  • Professional Experience:

    • Currently serves as a flight nurse for Guardian Flight
    • Former Nursing Professional Developer at the University of Utah

      • Trained ER and ICU nurses as part of the Critical Care Team

      • Specialized in what she calls “the finer art of not letting people die”

    • Former experience in Forensics and Emergency Medicine

Megan has a penchant for being a know-it-all when it comes to emergencies. She is your go-to gal for medical crises, and she uses that knowledge to over-pack for every camping expedition she goes on, driving her husband and children crazy. Megan said it’s okay because her dog gets her. It’s fair to say we wine hikers get her too.
