Slow Hikes (UT) Ambassador

Jen Knudsen

Born and raised in Utah, Jen has always had a deep love for the outdoors. If she had a religion, she says it would be hiking—it’s where she finds peace, strength, and a strong connection to nature.

After retiring from her state job almost two years ago, Jen now focuses on real estate investments and managing rental properties. This flexibility has given her more time to travel, hike, and volunteer with trail groups and outdoor programs.

Jen grew up in a family that loved the outdoors. Her dad used to take her scouting before hunting season, and her family spent vacations camping in remote places. As kids, she and her siblings even slept outside in their backyard all summer long! She remembers hiking Mount Timpanogos with her dad at around 15—not to bag a peak, but to scout for mountain goats!

In her early 20s, Jen got into climbing and canyoneering, which led to her passion for peak bagging and hiking. In 2018, she took her first international hiking trip to Canada, exploring Banff, Jasper, and the Canadian Rockies. Since then, she’s fallen in love with travel hiking and dreams of hiking in every U.S. state and in many more countries around the world.

When she’s not on the trail, Jen enjoys painting—especially watercolor and wood projects—and spending quality time with her kids and grandkids, always encouraging them to join her in the great outdoors.

Jen’s Favorite Hike: Mist and John Muir Trails in Yosemite in late May. Albion Basin, Alexander Basin or Timp Basin in Late July when wild flowers are at peak. The Alps, The Wind Rivers or the Uintas in August .

Jen’s Favorite Drink: “I’m definitely more of a beer girl. I love Ambers and IPAs, but I do enjoy a crisp cool white Riesling as well.”

Jen’s Favorite Hiking or Backpacking Gear: “My shoulder strap pocket that holds my phone and my pStyle.”
