SUMMARY:Canine First Aid with Dr. Jenn Perez
DESCRIPTION:About This Event\nAre you an avid hiker and camper who loves nothing more than hitting the trails with your furry four-legged friend? If so\, you know that spending time in the great outdoors with your pet can be a wonderful bonding experience. \nBut what happens if your dog gets injured or starts to show signs of distress while out on the trail? How can you stabilize an injury and ensure your dog gets the medical attention they need in time? \nEnter the expert: meet Dr. Jenn Perez\, an ER veterinarian with 8 years of experience in Critical Care. With a Doctorate from Colorado State University and a one-year rotating internship at a specialty hospital in Tucson\, AZ under her belt\, Dr. Perez knows a thing or two about emergency medicine. She currently works at MedVet Northern Utah in Sunset\, UT\, where she specializes in emergency and critical care. \n \n  \nBut Dr. Perez’s expertise extends beyond the walls of the hospital. When she’s not working\, Dr. Perez enjoys getting outdoors anyway she can. She specifically loves running\, hiking\, backpacking\, and road cycling. \nAs an avid outdoors enthusiast herself\, she’s intimately familiar with the risks that come with spending time on the trail with your pet. From heat stroke and rattlesnake bites to severe allergic reactions\, she’s seen it all – and she’s here to share her knowledge with you. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nAnd with her own two dogs\,12-year-old Pitbull mix Emma and 15-year-old Ridgeback mix Rowan\, by her side on her adventures\, you can trust that Dr. Perez practices what she preaches. \nWhat You’ll Learn\nSo if you’re looking to learn more about how to keep your pet safe and healthy while out in nature\, join the Wine Hiking Society and Dr. Jenn Perez the evening of June 7 for our Canine First Aid class. \nDr. Perez will discuss how to stabilize and treat the following: \n\nWounds / injuries\nHeat stroke\nAnaphylaxis\nRattlesnake bites\n\nIn addition to teaching about the major emergencies that can happen on the trail\, Dr. Perez will also show you the important items you should carry in your pack for a doggy first aid kit. \nDr. Perez will have either one or both of her dogs for demonstration. Please leave your four-legged friends at home so that everyone can take notes and focus. \n  \nALCOHOL NOT INCLUDED \nNOTE: Fifty percent of all tickets sold for this event will be donated to CAWS. CAWS is a no-kill\, volunteer\, and foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is Utah’s oldest rescue group.
