SUMMARY:No. UT: VIP-only Wine Tasting with the Wine Academy of Utah
DESCRIPTION:About This Event\nVIPs\, join us for a heavily discounted private wine tasting event with the Wine Academy of Utah! Each quarter\, we host free hiking events for VIPs. In lieu of a free hiking event\, we’re covering the bulk of the cost for a private wine tasting\, accessible only to our VIP members. \nHosted at the wonderfully eclectic Dancing Cranes Imports\, Wine Academy of Utah founder Jim Santangelo will feature and review three delicious wines carefully selected for our society. Pairings of meats\, cheeses\, and crackers will also be provided. \nIf you’ve never done a tasting with Jim before\, you are in for a real treat. Jim is passionate\, incredibly knowledgeable\, and highly entertaining. This isn’t your typical stiff wine tasting. No matter how many tastings you’ve done in the past\, you are sure to leave this event having learned something new about wine. \n  \nAbout Jim Santangelo\n— \nJim Santangelo’s journey into the world of wine began far from the vineyards—at a hot dog stand in the humid summers of Western New York. As the grill man calling out “Whatcha want? Whatcha got?”\, he discovered early the joy of creating memorable experiences through food\, hospitality\, and a bit of playful banter. When he later traded the grill for the dining rooms of Salt Lake City’s top restaurants\, he found himself captivated by the power of wine to elevate a meal and connect people. \nDriven by this passion\, Jim pursued formal training\, earning his certification as a Sommelier and later becoming an Educator through an internationally recognized program. Today\, he brings that same enthusiasm to every corner of the industry—as an award-winning wine educator\, sommelier\, event host\, and the Founder of the Wine Academy of Utah\, an approved education provider for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). \nAt the Wine Academy of Utah\, Jim trains both hospitality professionals and wine lovers\, helping them demystify wine through globally recognized curriculum and engaging\, approachable teaching. Outside the classroom\, he curates a wide range of consumer tasting experiences throughout the community—partnering with restaurants\, bars\, coffee shops\, the Leonardo Museum\, and even the Tracy Aviary to pair wine with art\, ambiance\, and storytelling. \nThough he thrives in the energy of live events\, one of Jim’s favorite parts of the job is the quiet preparation: researching wines\, designing tastings\, and crafting the printed materials that bring each experience to life. For him\, it’s an opportunity to slow down and reconnect with what started it all—the simple pleasure of discovering a great wine. \nFrom his early shouts of “Whatcha want? Whatcha got?” to today’s iconic invitation of “How about a little splishy splash to get you started tonight?\,” Jim continues to blend expertise with humor\, education with enjoyment\, and passion with purpose. Through every class\, tasting\, and tour\, he builds not just knowledge\, but unforgettable experiences. \n—

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Wine Hiker Christmas Party & Charity Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:About This Event\nJoin us for a delightful evening of celebration and camaraderie at the 3rd Annual Women’s Wine Hiking Society Christmas party & charity fundraiser. \n  \nA NEW SPACE FOR 2025! \nWe absolutely loved Café Madrid\, but unfortunately\, we were running out of room–even with the bigger space last year. For this year’s event\, we have reserved the event venue at Publik Space. Publik Space offers 4\,000 square feet of urban chic under a 1940s barrel roof. The brick walls and exposed ceiling create a gorgeous backdrop to this year’s Christmas party and fundraiser. \n \n  \nWhat to Expect\n  \nDinner: We’re excited to offer a delicious dinner at this year’s Christmas party\, prepared by Laziz\, a local woman-owned Lebanese restaurant that honors old-world recipes while offering new takes on past favorites. While the exact menu is still in the works\, you can expect a thoughtful\, satisfying meal that brings people together—nothing too fancy\, just really good food made with care. Come hungry for connection\, conversation\, and a cozy night with great company. \n\nDrinks: This year\, we’re adding a little extra sparkle to the evening with Vintage Mobile Bar (owned and operated by New Member ambassador\, Tori Foote). You’ll be able to purchase drink tickets ahead of time for your convenience. Expect a curated selection of wines and fun\, winter-inspired cocktails served with flair from this charming little bar-on-wheels. Cheers to a festive night\, great sips\, and good company! \n\nSilent Auction Fundraiser: The evening will also include a silent auction fundraiser dedicated to supporting Girl & Her Backpack. Girl & Her Backpack is a nonprofit organization for girls of all backgrounds that promotes personal-development through a collaborative and experiential learning environment. \nHere’s what we’ve raised in the past—we’d love to top it this year! \n\n$2600 in 2024 for Wildlife Rehabilitation Center\n$2070 in 2023 for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women\n\nWe have some amazing items for silent auction this year. Here are some things you can look forward to: \n\n\n\nHiking & Backpacking Gear from MSR\, Grand Trunk\, Sawyer\, Sea to Summit\, Alps Mountaineering\, Deuter\, Klymi\n\n\nAlta Ski Tickets \n\n\nLuxury Resort Stay in Florida\n\n\nDog Care Gift Basket from Vista Vet Clinic & Urgent Care \n\n\nAnd much more!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMark your calendars for the Women’s Wine Hiking Society Christmas Party & Fundraiser on December 7 at Publik Space! \nJoin us for a festive evening filled with good company\, great food\, and a shared mission to help young women gain the confidence to explore the outdoors. Your presence supports a brighter\, more empowered future—rooted in compassion and the spirit of giving. \n  \nSIGN-UPS CLOSE NOVEMBER 30 AT MIDNIGHT. IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING\, PLEASE CONTACT US HERE TO SEE IF ANY SPOTS HAVE OPENED.  \n12

SUMMARY:Beginner Backpacking Trip to Canyonlands: April 2025
DESCRIPTION:We get it. \nYou’ve seen pictures of people backpacking in remote places and have wanted to try it yourself but . . . \nYou don’t know where to start. How do you know where to go? What to pack? What to eat? How to stay safe? \nYou don’t have the gear. Gear is expensive! Besides\, what all do you need to bring? How do you know which gear to buy? \nYou have only backpacked once or have only gone with other people and lack the confidence or experience to do it again. Maybe you went with your boyfriend / husband / dad / brother and they took care of everything. \n\nYou see women getting into the backcountry with other women\, and you see how strong and empowered they look and you want to feel that way too. \nWe get it because we’ve been there too. \nThat’s why we’ve created this guided beginner backpacking trip exclusively for women. \n— \n \n— \n\nAbout This Event\n— \nThere’s something so empowering about heading into the backcountry as a woman with only the gear on your back and other women beside you. However\, we know firsthand how intimidating it can be for women to get into backpacking. \nTherefore\, we invite you to experience this women-only backpacking trip in a safe\, supportive space with other beginners like YOU. \nJoin Angelique Fish and Cindy Vance for an unforgettable weekend in the remote\, pristine backcountry of Canyonlands National Park. \n\n\n  \n \n— \nI love it! Show me the price!\n— \nWHAT THE COST OF THIS BEGINNER BACKPACKING TRIP INCLUDES:\n— \n\nAccommodations at a condo in Moab for 2 nights (Thursday and Sunday)\nAll meals at the condo: dinner Thursday night\, continental breakfast Friday morning\, lunch and dinner Sunday\, and a continental breakfast Monday morning\n3 days\, 2 nights at beautiful backcountry campsites hidden among Utah juniper trees and red sandstone pinnacles with expansive views of spectacular sunsets and star-lit skies\nAll permits required by the National Park Service\nA ratio of 1 backpacking guide to every 5 women\nHigh-quality gear to use for the weekend\, including\n\nbackpacking tent (shared with another person)\nbackpack\nsleeping bag\nsleeping pad\nwater bladder\nwater reservoir\ncookstove\nbackpacking chair\nand more\n\n\n\n\nExclusive access to our backpacking portal with videos\, instructions\, and guides to help you prepare\nIn-person hands-on training on how to pack your backpack on Thursday night after dinner\nA packing list to make sure you have everything you need for an enjoyable and safe weekend\nSix-week supplemental strength training guide with videos to help you physically prepare for backpacking\nA special food menu tailored to backpacking in the desert to take the guesswork out of what to eat in the Canyonlands backcountry\nBackcountry education on Leave No Trace Principles\, Canyonlands National Park regulations and history\, and Don’t Bust the Crust\nEmergency gear including two group first aid kits\, GPS locator / SOS device\, and two experienced backpacking guides who are both certified in wilderness first-aid and CPR\nSearch and Rescue insurance in the very\, very rare chance of an emergency\nPrivate WhatsApp group to connect you to the other participants\, coordinate event details\, and prepare you for an amazing weekend full of sisterhood\, free from the noise of every day life\nLaminated reusable packing list for your future adventures\nSwag bag full of backpacking goodies for you to use on future backpacking adventures\n\n— \n——————-                \n— \n\n\n\n\nWHAT THE COST OF THIS BEGINNER BACKPACKING TRIP DOES NOT INCLUDE:\n— \n\nTransportation to / from Moab and Canyonlands National Park (If you live in Utah or choose to fly into Salt Lake International Airport\, we will help arrange carpools in our WhatsApp group)\nNational Park entrance fee (If you have a NP Pass\, please bring it)\nAlcohol\, food for backpacking\, clothing\, and other miscellaneous backpacking items\n\n— \nHell yes! Tell me more!\n— \n\n\n\n\n 12 \n \n \n \n \n\n— \nPLEASE NOTE: \nWe have a strict cancellation policy for several reasons. First\, we divide gear among attendees to ensure an even distribution of weight\, which depends on having an even number of participants. Second\, we invest considerable time preparing each attendee for the trip. Finding a replacement and getting them up to speed takes a lot of time and work on our part. Third\, its unfair to those on the waitlist who\, if they choose to take the open spot\, are unlikely to get the full experience. \nReservations are non-transferable. Cancellations prior to January 16\, 2025\, will be eligible for a full refund minus a $125 convenience fee. Cancellations prior to February 16\, 2025\, will be eligible for a 50% refund minus a $125 convenience fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations after February 15\, 2025. NO EXCEPTIONS. \nBecause of our strict cancellation policy\, we STRONGLY recommend purchasing travel insurance. Here is one option: https://www.allianztravelinsurance.com/. (We do not work directly with this company. It is up to the attendees to ensure the policy provides the coverage needed / wanted.) \n—
