Saturday, January 30, was supposed to be our boozy coffee and donuts hike at Donut Falls. But Mother Nature had other plans for us. After not getting much snow all winter, a storm brought 14 inches of fresh powder in some areas of Big Cottonwood Canyon, which is where Donut Falls is.
With high avalanche risk and increased traffic up the canyon because of all the new powder, we decided to come up with a plan B(ells Canyon).
Everyone was incredibly positive and up for a last-minute (albiet harder) back-up plan to hike to the lower falls in Bells Canyon. With 1453 ft of elevation gain in just 2.3 miles, nothing stopped ambassador Sam Martino from carrying a dozen donuts up a steep incline.
As a consolation for having to change our plans, Mother Nature delivered a break in the clouds with some bouts of sun and blue sky. It turned out to be a beautiful winter day after all. And even though there was no Donut Falls for us, there was still donuts, boozy coffee, and most importantly an amazing group of women.
